Yakiniku Great

Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) has been really popular in recent years and Hong Kong has a number of options all over the city. Yakiniku Great is the best that I've tried but is also the most expensive. We ordered two tasting menus to be shared between 4 girls and it was definitely enough food! I think we may have added one dish? I love my meat but I think that it must be quite filling for one person to eat an entire tasting menu.

Chen's Roast Goose 深井陳記燒鵝酒家

I ran the Spartan Race a month ago and it was a ton of fun! My team and I decided to reward ourselves with a ton of good food after the race and Chen's Roast Goose definitely satisfied our hungry bellies.

Salt and Pepper Calamari
One of my favorite dishes of all time! This was sooooo yummy where the batter was not too thick and the amount of crispy garlic on top was perfect.

Roast Goose
The meat had great flavor and was not too fat. The skin was perfectly roasted and had the perfect balance of juiciness and crispiness. Absolutely delicious.

Fried Fish in Creamy Corn Sauce
I usually love this dish but the fish did not seem fresh and tasted a bit weird.
This restaurant is quite far away so I doubt I will go often but it totally hit the spot after a super fun and intensive race day!

Gyukaku

Gyukaku is a popular Japanese yakiniku chain with numerous international outposts such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and here in New York. Gyukaku serves affordable yakiniku in a casual setting and is a good choice for a fun meal with friends. W and I decided to meet M for lunch one day and we left the establishment very full. The cuts were not very premium as expected and I felt that the marinade was much too salty and heavy for some dishes. However, for the price you pay we had a pretty decent meal. I also really loved the s'mores dessert at the end. My favorite yakiniku in New York is Takashi but the prices are also much higher as compared to Gyukaku. I have also been meaning to try Futago (a favorite while I was in Hong Kong) but have always had scheduling conflicts.

July 4th Festivities

I've never celebrated July 4th before as I was always back in Hong Kong for the summer so I was super excited to have my first July 4th celebration in the US of A. We had a BBQ and we also made a lot of sides and dessert.

Wynonna's MayPac BBQ

W, my favorite hostess with the mostest, always spoils everyone with the most delicious BBQ and I was super excited to hear that she was going to have one for the much anticipated boxing match. I was also extra happy because it was the first BBQ of the season after a cold cold winter. Once again the BBQ was damn delicious and I can't wait for her next one!

I almost want to blow this up as a huge art piece on my wall x_x

298 Nikuya Room

I've been wanting to try Nikuya for a while and I heard that they recently opened a new outpost in Central that is supposedly prettier than their more "homey" Sheung Wan branch. Everything was delicious and I would definitely return! The quality of meat was high and everything was seasoned well. The yukke was divineeee and a must order! The salad was highly recommended by M and while it was quite good, I felt that it was a tad salty. We also got a tofu soup that was good but the highlight was definitely the meats! I may come and try the omakase next time!

W's Korean Themed BBQ

Those who know me know that I am a sucker for BBQs. I am always trying to make my friends have BBQs and W definitely knows how to throw down. Last time she had flank steak with chimichurri sauce, baby back ribs, satay chicken drumsticks, and chicken wings. Since the weather is going to become deathly cold soon, we wanted to fit in a BBQ while it was still nice and sunny. W decided to make this a Korean themed BBQ but I subtly hinted that I loved those satay chicken drumsticks so she also added those in along with wings :D She marinated some delicious kalbi and also made her own cucumber pickles. Needless to say it was absolutely scrumptious and I stuffed my face. I also brought along a pumpkin pie that I got from Wright's Farm when I went apple picking last week. I loved how the box was hand drawn and the farm had a very warm and family focused atmosphere. I will make a post on my apple picking trip soon!
