Avocado Toast

Avocado toast is my all time favorite breakfast meal (bacon, eggs royale, omelettes.... comes veryyyy close). I use to have it on top of this sweet corn bread from ktown but I recently discovered a mindblowingly good wheatberry bread from Silvermoon Bakery near my apartment. The bread has an assortment of seeds and grain on top of it and when paired with a perfectly ripe avocado with a sprinkle of salt and pepper... there is nothing better.

Clinton Street Baking Co. & Restaurant Part 2 (or actually 1)

Yay I found the photos from my first visit that I mentioned in my first post about Clinton Street! This is the time I came here with Y and waited for 2 hours.

Country Breakfast - Three Eggs Any Style, Heritage Maple Cured Ham, Hash Browns, Buttermilk Biscuit
This was yummy but I think I prefer the Southern Breakfast mentioned in my first post more. This hash brown was nicely browned on the outside but I would have preferred them to be thinner and had less potato filling and more crunchy bits. The eggs were cooked perfectly as you can see and the biscuit was flakey and well done.

Sweet Potato Fries
Crunchy, perfect thickness, and well seasoned.

Cheese Grits
Hmmmm I love grits. I used to not but I think it was just because I was served a terrible version of it before. When grits are made right they are just decadent and delicious and these were on point.

Pancakes with Warm Maple Butter and Wild Main Blueberries
Oh lord these pancakes were just dreaming. Fluffy, sweet, and everything you imagined the best pancakes to be. The maple butter was also perfect and the blueberries were also juicy and sweet.

Clinton Street Baking Co. & Restaurant

Clinton Street Baking Co. & Restaurant is most famous for its fluffy pancakes, but I have actually never ordered them the two times I've been (haha and I don't have a picture of them here either... sorry). Don't get me wrong I did get a couple bites of them from my friends order but I usually just prefer savory breakfast items! The pancakes are really as good as they say it is and a must try if you like pancakes. The other items that I have ordered have also been yummy. I waited for 2 hours or more when I first went with Y and I didn't think I would go again. But when J visited we went and waited for around 40 minutes. I am so certain I have pictures from my first visit too... I will dig them up soon and do a second post since I tricked you guys who clicked in from Facebook into probably thinking there would be some close up drool worthy picture of the pancakes hehe.

Southern Breakfast - Two Eggs any Style, Sugar-cured Bacon, Cheese Grits, Fried Green Tomatoes
This was really yummy and hit the spot. The fried green tomatoes were quite interesting and not something I've had before. Nothing spectacular, but well made and satisfying. The standout item on the plate was the SUGAR CURED BACON. I loved how the bacon was cut thickly and the sugary sweetness matched with the smokiness of the bacon was just pure perfection. I really loved putting all the components of the dish into one perfect bite. The eggs were runny and creamy and was so good with the crispy tomatoes, the bacon added that savory and smoky element, and lastly the cheesy grits ended it all with a bang!

I think Clinton Street provides very satisfying and well made dishes in a bright and friendly environment, but I would not wait more than 2 hours a second time. The pancakes really do not disappoint so it is worth a wait if you've never been, but you should put your name down and go grab a coffee or shop around if you decide to come here.

Blu Jam Cafe

Blu Jam Cafe is known to serve the most amazing french toast in the world and the first time I laid eyes upon these babies were on my friend J's instagram. They truly looked out of this world and after reading review after view on Yelp I was SO happy that I got to actually indulge in these myself. Blu Jam cafe is located in Melrose Avenue so it was perfect as we wanted to do some shopping afterwards. There was a bit of wait but the food and service was definitely worth it. Note: the servings are FRIGGING MASSIVE. We felt a bit bad as we could barely finish the food and even though we really did try our best we hardly made a dent in the mountain of food. We also had a rather intense night the night before so perhaps we weren't on our prime eating form.

Tari's Gang woohoo!

Migas - Spicy Combination of eggs scrambled with jalapeños, chipotle, beef chorizo sausage, red bell peppers, tortilla chips and mozzarella, topped with homemade tomato salsa, served with corn tortillas and potatoes
Can you tell how ridiculously huge this plate of food was? It could seriously feed a dinosaur. The eggs were creamy, smooth, and bursting with flavor. The spiciness along with the tang from the tomato salsa provided the perfect kick to my taste buds and invigorated my appetite. The corn tortillas were perfectly crispy and went extremely well with the creamy eggs. The potatoes were also sliced to the ideal size so that each piece was nice and crunchy.

Steak and Eggs - Grilled Niman Ranch beef tenderloin with gorgonzola cheese, caramelized onions, red potatoes, topped with two sunny up eggs and hollandaise
This was C's dish and I only tried a bite but he said that it was very good. I could tell from my bite that the steak was tender and well flavored. Only downfall was that C forgot we were eating Mastro's that night so he had steak for both meals which could be a win for some.

Crunchy French Toast - Egg brioche dipped in batter, rolled in crunchy corn flakes and grilled to perfection, topped with fresh fruit, served with vanilla bean sauce
Oh boy oh boy the infamous french toast finally arrives! This was absolutely diiiivine. The cornflakes made these the crunchiest most decadent french toasts ever. The crunchy exterior enveloped a creamy sweet inside and the fruits were fresh and sweet. The vanilla bean sauce was also smooth and delicious. Heaven on a plate.

Uptown - Oven-roasted turkey breast, sliced tomato, cucumber, mayo, Dijon mustard, avocado and provolone cheese on toasted ciabatta
This was T's sandwich and I also got a small bite of it. The bread was toasted perfectly and the filling was generous and went together very well. The avocado was lovely and ripe and the mustard and mayo provided a tangy creamy sauce for the sandwich. A very solid sandwich.

Blu Jam Cafe served some delicious food and the ambiance was warm and cozy. Service was also friendly. The food was well made and very comforting, a definitely must visit particularly for french toast lovers! All the food was delicious but I felt that the french toast was what made this place stand out.
