Erin Mckenna's Bakery

Erin Mckenna is a bakery that specializes in vegan and gluten free baked goods. A colleague who is vegan brought in these cupcakes and I must say I was incredibly impressed by how decadent and delicious they were! The frosting was luscious and the cake was very moist.

Bloom Cakes

Bloom Cakes serves super cute cupcakes in Phnom Penh in a comfortable environment. It's a great place to visit after lunch since we get two hour lunch breaks (woohoo!). On their website, it says that Bloom is a non-profit that aims to empower Cambodian women by equipping them with skills. The cupcakes at Bloom are a bit too dense for my tastes but the flavors are always very interesting and yummy. The decoration is also extremely pretty and it's always a treat for the eyes.

Kisses

After eating at Kau Kee, we noticed a adorable cupcake shop and the word "Chikalicious". Our curiosity was instantly piqued, Chikalicious is a well known dessert bar that my friend took me to before in New York that served glorious luscious cupcakes. Could it be? Was it in Hong Kong?! We rushed into Kisses Cupcakes and met the super sweet owner Jasmine. She told us that they work with Chikalicious to develop the cupcakes and all the cupcakes in the really did look like the ones I had in New York! Apart from the normal flavors, Jasmine also put her creative talents to use and created her own flavors such as lychee, green tea with azuki bean, and wait for it - Ferrero Rocher! The shop is super cute with a couple of small tables where you can relax and drink some coffee or moscato (genius!). Remember to drop by Kisses for a lovely sweet getaway!

Yay!

Strawberry and red velvet cupcakes
I love how the cupcakes are quite small. Sometimes cupcakes are too big and you get too full or it gets too sweet. This size was perfect! The cupcakes were super moist and flavorful. It was not too sweet and the frosting was fluffy and rich. The strawberry had a great fresh kick of fruity sweetness. The red velvet had an amazing tangy cream cheese frosting that went perfectly with the delectable deep red cake. Loved it!

Butterlane Cupcakes

Ever since the explosion of cupcake stores everywhere, many cupcake shops have gotten a lot of hype and I have tried many of them such as Magnolia Bakery, Baked by Melissa, Crumbs, and Sprinkles. I personally think Crumbs is disgusting and too excessive, a cupcake to me is suppose to be a small delicate bite of sweetness, not a huge cake smothered with globs and globs of frosting to the point of drowning (Crumbs). Butterlane Cupcakes got very good reviews from my friends so I went after my lovely dinner at Scarpetta. The store was very small and decorated in a charming childish manner. There is a blackboard on one side of the wall with all the different cake and frosting combinations.

Banana cupcake with strawberry frosting
The cupcake was moist and sweet. The frosting had actual strawberry bits in it that have been smashed up. I really liked how the frosting actually had the fruit in it, much better than artificial strawberry flavorings. The cupcake was decorated rather rustically but I found this to be very down to earth and echoed the way the cupcake tasted, simple and deliciously made with fresh quality ingredients.

Perfect with a cup of hot green tea
