Brooklyn Bagel and Coffee Company

We are blessed with many amazing bagel places in New York and Brooklyn Bagel and Coffee Company is one of my favorites! The bagel is so fluffy and the everything topping is very generous. The scallion cream cheese is also packed with flavor and fresh scallions. NOM!

Sunday's Grocery

I was not in the best of moods but these delicious sandwiches and good friends definitely cheered me up (and maybe that coffee alcoholic beverage helped too)! The team behind Yardbird and Ronin have once again created a hip and interesting new outpost that serves delicious food that already have people talking all around town. I absolutely adore Yardbird, and I really loved Sunday's Grocery also. But I just don't know why Ronin never really did it for me. Maybe I need to go back and try it again. Sunday's Grocery offers customers made to order sandwiches and side dishes and a selection of shochu, sake, and other alcohol. Apparently there should be a draught wine system but that did not seem to be available yet when I went. There also will be lifestyle goods for sale but I didn't really notice when I went but it may still be in its opening phase. There is not seating there so you can either choose to bring it elsewhere to nom on or do it like us and sit on the little plastic boxes outside the shop. They also serve fried chicken on Sunday's but unfortunately I have yet to try them!

Mmmm what to get what to get?!

I forgot the name of this, but it was basically a espresso martini in a cute glass that I got to keep. The drink was freshly made too and then sealed with a little metal cover. Super cute!

Chicken Fingers
Extremely solid chicken fingers. Juicy and high quality chicken lightly breaded with the perfect amount of crunch. Pretty sure that was kewpie mayo also which is just a gift from the gods. I love mayo always but kewpie is just NEXT LEVEL shizz.

Market Chips - Root Veg, Black Sugar, Shichimi
These market chips are SO delicious. The addition of the black sugar just genius and really makes these chips rise above other veggie chips. They are fried to crispy perfection and the sticky sweetness complements them so perfectly. They are also so pretty with all their vibrant colors!

Mineeee!

Katsu Sando - Pork Katsu, Tonkatsu Sauce, Milk Bread
Oooooo this was so yummy. The katsu was not what I expected but it was still amazing. If you've been to Yardbird, the katsu tasted like a deep fried patty of the tsukune (chicken meatball). The katsu is then smothered in creamy slaw and savory tonkatsu sauce. This amazingness is then enveloped by two slices of fluffy Japanese milk bread. Eating this was like the taste equivalent of the feeling of wrapping yourself up in a soft fluffy fleece blanket. I'm a poet.

I feel like the team behind Yardbird is so great at taking dishes that are familiar, and adding a little something special to bring it to the next level. Like at YB, the type of skewers in terms of the meat is nothing innovative, yet they flavor it in such a way that really makes the whole thing pop and makes it so unique. They also are very good at inventing totally creative dishes too such as the KFC  (omg YUM). Once again, service was super friendly and knowledgable. C got the banh mi and I had a bite which was also extremely good. It would be nice if there was seating but that's not a big deal. I will definitely be back again and I also really want to try the fried chicken!

Kat'z Deli

Katz Deli is a New York institution that has been around since 1888. Their pastrami is known to be the best and I can definitely say that it is the best pastrami I've ever had (even though I am not a pastrami expert!). I am quite certain there has been a post on this blog about Katz already. T and I went here and had tons of leftovers after. It was a must eat for him when he came to visit again! I think it's smart to come on a weekday because it gets super packed on weekends.

Lobsta Truck

This day was such a fun and hectic day because we did not have a lot of days left to eat but there was so much to pig out in. Therefore we decided to go to two places for lunch. It was so hard to not overeat because the lobster rolls were gooood. The rolls at Lobsta Truck was definitely not as good at Luke's Lobsters in NYC but we were also quite hungry so it was tempting to just shove our face when we got here. The lobster was cut into large generous chunks and was juicy and sweet. I always prefer the warm version with butter but every sandwich was well seasoned. The crab was also yummy. Luke's Lobster is better because the bread is sweeter and more buttery and rich. The clam chowder was pretty damn good as well. Our next stop was my ultimate favorite: Ricky's Fish Tacos! Stay tuned.

Il Tramezzino

M went to school in USC and therefore I knew that he would have a good list of yummy places to visit. I had a bunch of "must eats" that I was eager to try but the place that M chose was pretty satisfying. The croissant panini was particularly delicious and made for a instagram worthy shot :) I don't think I would make a point to come here if I was in LA as there are so many interesting places to go to but if I lived here I would love to come here for a very solid panini.

Katz's Delicatessen

Kat'z Delicatessen is one of New York's most famous and best Jewish delicatessen restaurants, famous for their pastrami sandwiches and hot dogs. I've been to New York many times so it is quite silly of me to not have visited this establishment earlier. I loved that the restaurant remained unchanged throughout the years and stuck to their traditional ways of running the restaurant and preparing the food.

You are handed a ticket when you first walk in. Do not loose this ticket because it is used as a record of what you ordered and when you are done eating you hand that to the cashier as you exit. There is a penalty charge if you loose this ticket because it makes their already hectic job even harder!
The entire wall is covered completely with pictures of famous celebrities and other notable people who have dined here. The setting is very casual and has a cafeteria feel to it.

Potato Knish
The outside was crispy and the inside was creamy and chewy. The knish was extremely hot but I still couldn't resist biting into it! Next time I would like to try more flavors such as with meat fillings.
Pastrami sandwich with russian dressing and mustard
Ahhh! The moment I have been waiting for. Each slice was pastrami was sliced thickly and topped on top of a wholesome piece of bread. The pastrami was juicy, tender, and exploding with meaty flavors. The pastrami was perfectly charred on the outside and succulent on the inside. The pastrami was layered on so many times that the bread was almost unable to hold the sandwich together. The tangy mustard and russian dressing wrapped the entire sandwich together perfectly.

The meal is completed with some old school cream soda! Delicious :)

Classic BLT

Was watching "The Best Thing I Ever Ate - With Bacon" last night when I was having trouble sleeping and had the urge to make a BLT all day. As many of you know bacon is one of my all time favorite things and I love making anything with bacon as an ingredient. Recipe is painfully straight forward and simple, I tried to make it a little more healthy though!

Ingredients
-Bacon
-Light Mayonnaise
-Lettuce
-Tomatoes
-Whole grain German dark wheat bread

Instructions
1) Put the bacon in the pan first because while the bacon is cooking you can slice up the tomatoes and wash the lettuce and when you are done with that the bacon should be perfect! I used 3 pieces.

2) Break the lettuce into manageable pieces and give them a quick rinse before drying them off on paper towels. I tried to put a lot of lettuce to make this healthier, approx. 3-4 large leaves

3) Slice the tomatoes into very thin slices. This will help with layering the tomatoes later, when they are too thick they tend to slip out when you take a big bite.

4) Spread one slice of bread with the Light Mayo. I looove mayonnaise.

5) Layer the tomato slices over the mayo.

little slices of sunshine

6) Add the lettuce and the bacon. Add top layer piece of bread. Voila!

Enjoy!
